Did a tax relief company charge you thousands to “file a CDP”?
Form 12153 is a two-page IRS form that costs nothing to file. Some firms charge $5,000–$15,000+ and describe the CDP request as a “settlement” or a “case resolution.” It isn't. Filing the form only opens a hearing.
If your firm filed the form, stopped communicating, and your balance hasn't changed, you may have paid for a form, not a result.
Signs you may have been overcharged
- You were told the CDP would “settle” or “close” your case.
- You can't get a copy of what was filed.
- No one has mentioned the Appeals officer, a Notice of Determination, or a collection alternative by name.
- You were charged before anyone reviewed your IRS transcripts.
- Your hearing was months ago and you don't know the outcome.
What we do
A free review of what was filed, what stage the hearing is in, and what it should reasonably cost. If you want us to take over, we give you a flat-fee quote.
